After Kearney went to Hastings Cllege for a year then back to KSC for a couple of years then onto the U of Wyoming. I then was accepted and attended the Uof Ne College of Medicine. graduating in 72 after post grad training I went into private practice in Torrington ,Wy. I lost both my associates after 9 years and left Wy I practiced briefly in Mt back to Alliance,Ne and finally in Holyoke, Co. Somewhere along the line I started doing Emergency Medicine and after 1984 began doing that fulltime eventually I moved to sunny Southern Ca where I practiced ER medicine in big city hospitals until I decided I was getting a bit long in the tooth for the long hours so went to work for the State of Ca as the Chief Medical Officer at one of the largest prisons in the country. I am still there working fulltime but will probably retire either in Dec or April.
I was married while in Med School we had 3 children Cari a schoolteacher in Laramie, Wy., Lacey a National Marketing Director for 3M in Minneapolis, and Rhett who is a head chef until recently in a french restaurant in Denver but who moved to Minneapolis this past mo to take over restaurant there. Between the 3 they have 5 children with one more on the way in Dec. My wife and I separated in 1984 I remarried in 1996 never knowing when I was well off, and now am divorced again.

July 02, 1945 Kimball NE US 69145 Married 3
"When I get older, losing my hair, many years from now--when I'm 64!"  The Beatles were never my favorite, but this song seems most appropriate--I've lost my hair, like a little wine, and I'm now 64!
Life has been wonderful, and I am very grateful!
I am beginning my 41st year of teaching--33 years as a vocal music instructor, 2 years of retirement and rest, and now beginning  the 8th year as an elementary   librarian. Teaching has been the most rewarding vocation--I can't image doing anything else.
After two years at the University at Lincoln, I transferred to Kearney to finish my degree in music.  There I met Keith Staehr of York, NE.  We were married in 1967, I began teaching in Grand Island, and we received our degrees in '68.  Keith became the football coach at North Loup-Scotia and I the band/vocal teacher, K-12.  It was a great school to begin our careers.  In 1972 Keith became the coach in Kimball, NE--a place he said he would never go back to only a year before.  37 years later, we wouldn't be anywhere else.  I taught music in Bushnell, NE, a little town 12 miles west of Kimball, for four years before becoming the vocal music instructor at Kimball High School.  I retired in 2000 after 24 years. After resting for two years, I became the elementary librarian. I am grateful for such meaningful work.
I am also grateful for our three sons.  Jon lives in Evans, Co and works for Cal-Frac Corporation, fracing natural gas lines.  Joel is a State Farm Agent in Omaha.  Jay is married to Kim Sadler of Broken Bow and have two sons, Carsen and Ryan.  He is a coach/athletic/activities director with an administrative degree--living in Overton, NE.  Kim is a pre-school teacher. Being a mother and grandmother has been the most gratifying!
Keith is retired but mows at the golf course during the summer months--hunts, fishes, and plays golf whenever he can. He is going to be inducted into the Nebraska Coaches Hall of Fame in September and the UNK Athletic Hall of Fame in October--a most deserving but humbling honor for him.
We are both involved in the LCMS church activities--as organist and Keith, an elder.  P.E.O Sisterhood, KHS Foundation, and Kimball Housing Authority Boards keep me busy!
We are both connected to wonderful friends from high school, college, and community which make for wonderful, AWESOME memories!
My brothers all live in the Lincoln area--so in January, we moved our parents to Lincoln.  Mom is 85 and Dad, 87--they just celebrated their 65 wedding anniversary.  They both have had heart issues, but are now doing well.  They are also adjusting to life in Lincoln after 56 years in Kearney.  It is very strange not to go to Kearney.  "To Kearney High to you we'll always be true!"
I've enjoyed reading about all my classmates.  This website is awesome, Richard--thanks! And Margaret, I did it! Yes, I know it is too long--but like packing my suitcase--it's always too much!!

April 09, 1945 Overland Park KS United States 66209 Retired Married 2
Greetings Classmates! How do I cover a lifetime in a few short paragraphs? I will start with the present. Julie (Fern 1965) and I have been retired from medical and life insurance careers for almost ten years. How time flies! We love to travel and still have many places on our list. We spend a lot of time chasing our kids and grandchildren. Our son Mark, his wife Loli and Eric (4 years) and Sofia (almost 2 years) live in Austin, Texas. After living in Barcelona, Spain, for seven years, they returned to the states in 2007. Our daughter Jill and her husband Chris and Max (9 years) and Kendall (7 years) have been living in Winchester, England, since 2007. It's been great visiting them there however we are so glad they will soon be moving back to Asheville, North Carolina. Julie's parents and my mother still live in Kearney so we get back to Kearney quite often. Besides traveling and playing some golf, we spend about three months during the winter in Hawaii. It has become quite a magnet for the kids and grandkids. A little history now. I am a 1968 graduate of the University of Nebraska. Immediately after graduation I started my career in group insurance. Almost all of my 31 working years were spent in the Kansas City area. Kansas City is that place where people often go through but rarely stop! Next time you are coming through, give us a call. It would be great to meet for lunch. Thanks to Rick Ender and others for putting this together and keeping us in touch. It's been fun to see what everyone has been doing since our days at Kearney High. Send Fredrick (Fred) a MessageSend Fredrick (Fred) a Message
